Tips and tricks to level up your writing on Medium.

It's been a year writing on Medium, but it felt like a decade. The first 100 articles were written as a hobby, so I hardly learned anything from them. But, once I started taking Medium seriously, it was clear that Medium is more than an earning platform for writers.

It’s a way to communicate with your readers, to express your insights about the world and to network with writers you admire. After being on the platform for so long, I’ve learned some things that might help new writers create a place in the writing community.

Let’s dive in:

A 500-word article is enough to express your deepest thoughts

On Medium…

Don’t have time to write? Here are some ways to help you out.

Everyone can be a writer, but not everyone can be the same.

Writing, just like every other field, demands time, patience, and hard work. If you are willing to become a writer, staying consistent is the only way to improve your writing.

I’ve seen people finding it difficult to take out time to write every day. I am here to tell you that you can become a good writer if you give a little time every day to writing.

This blog is for all those who are willing to take writing as a career. But don’t get time to write…

It’s not about the goal anymore. I adore the process.

When I started writing on Medium, it was sheer curiosity. I’ve read a few posts of Nicolas Cole and wanted to help people with my writing.

But a few months back, I’ve learned about MPP, and just then, Medium started giving out bonuses to top writers. I was thrilled. I started working hard on Medium. Due to a full-time job, I could not give time to Medium, but I could earn some.

Luckily, I met a mentor who helped me level up my writing. But sadly, the second month also passed, and I have not been rewarded the bonus.

A tv series that helped me look at life from a different angle.

I am not a doctor, nor do I understand the technical jargon in the operation theatre. But when I noticed a shy doctor operating a patient at the airport with custom-made equipment, I was intrigued.

I am talking about the tv series — The Good Doctor, Freddie Highmore, aka Dr. Shaun Murphy, who plays the role of a surgeon. The guy has Autism making it challenging for him to connect with people on an emotional level.

But if you have watched the tv series, you would agree with me. …

And you might remember him too from your childhood days.

Imagine being a plumber trying to your princess at any cost, even if means overcoming life-threatening obstacles along your way. Will you do it if I give you $5,000? Not at all. It’s a stupid thought altogether. But what if I told you that it’s a game and you’ll learn tons of things along the way. Will you be okay with the failure?

Absolutely yes! If you haven’t guessed it yet, I am talking about Super Mario from the past. I still remember the first time the game came out. …

Don’t rush towards big pubs and other useful not-to-do things.

There is no rocket science to earning handsomely on Medium. You need to do few things correctly, which I have discussed in my previous post, and ignore the things I will mention in this blog post.

Don’t wait for the big publications

If you have been following my posts for some time, you might realize the emphasis I give on not waiting for acceptance from big publications.

You are a writer, and your primary job is to write. Either self-publish your post with the right tags or publish them in small publications. It’s natural to see Tim Denning posting on big pubs and feeling jealous about…

You have the samples. You posted in various groups, but there is no luck. Here’s what you’re missing.

I’ve seen tons of new and experienced writers crying about not getting enough clients from social medial or freelancing platforms in the past few months. Well, I am here to tell you that it’s your fault.

There is so much work out there, and I can vouch for it. Because I constantly get freelance work and due to my full-time job, I take some and reject the rest. But there is a reason I get work regularly. …

Without spending a dime or taking any medicine.

Writing is backbreaking work. Sitting in front of a laptop, sharing stories, creating value, research, editing, publishing, and repeating the process a couple of times a day.

Only a writer can understand the struggle of another writer. Sure, there is no physical work, but in reality, the mental work is toilsome than any physical labor. You are exercising the most phenomenal part of your body: the brain.

And what happens when you drain all your mental energy.

What happens after you hit the word limit?

When I first started writing, 500 words was my limit. And after writing 500 words, I used to wander around the office. …
